Brian and Sheila Gregory turn their outdated kitchen into a modern entertaining experience.

Having already built and sold several homes, remodeling their own home of 25 years was an enormous passion project for Briand and Sheila Gregory of San Jose. With excitement, Sheila told us, “If this was one of our spec homes, we would have made more neutral choices to remodel the remodel, but, because it was for our own kitchen, we designed it to suit our own needs. It turned out much better than we could have ever imagined.” Their kitchen featured a suite of Miele appliances, which was an easy choice for them because, “...When it comes to quality, we know Miele is top of the line!”.

Brian and Shiela started by selecting a set of quarter-sawn cabinets in a dark gray stain. “We didn’t want anything too ornate, and we also felt the modern trend of ultra-simple would just be too boring. We loved that the oak had a tight grain and was decorative without being over the top. It wasn’t too flashy, and it gives it more of a transitional feel, it’s something we planned the rest of the kitchen around.” Brian told us.

Now, when it came time to finalize their appliances, the Gregory’s worked with Airport Home Appliance’s Jean Farasat in our San Jose Showroom. They told us , “We’ve been working with Jean on all of our projects, and of course, he helped us with our own remodel. Ultimately, he was able to help us pick out Miele for our kitchen. We needed a range that wouldn’t clash with the color of the cabinetry. Miele was able to offer a better selection of configurations for the oven door. Plus, the black on stainless steel complemented our cabinets whereas other brands had gray or all stainless-steel fronts that just clashed too much.” In their remodel, even the window trim style was inspired by the cabinetry, and it is just one of many small details that are personal points of pride for the Gregory’s.

With their children grown up and out of the house, the couple opened up the kitchen and adjoining rooms to create an ideal space for entertaining. Shiela would then explain to us, “I specifically chose to feature the Miele appliances in the kitchen because I wanted our friends and family to be able to appreciate the sheer quality. We decided to contrast the cabinets with stainless steel instead of going with an all-integrated look. We wanted the Miele suite to be as attractive as it is functional.”

They also ended up extending the existing tile from the rest of the house into the kitchen seamlessly, which only integrated the entire project and the quartzite countertops to finally complete their vision. “We went through 10 different drawings, vision after vision before we ultimately finalized our plan, but it was all worth it. Jean Farasat and Airport Home Appliance are always a pleasure to work with, and we honestly couldn't be any happier with our kitchen remodel.”
